Design Philosopher or SOURCE NOTES

It will probably make the most sense if you read these articles in the same order in which Ezio Manzini presented them.

Ezio Manzini’s discourse was a groundbreaking presentation for me. Ezio opened my eyes to what design could be, what it isn’t and what it currently is. He added elements to design beyond the superficial. How to go about achieving sustainability, in an environment that is arguably finite, although the world’s economy is geared towards infinite growth. …a world where there is increasingly the ‘haves’, the ‘have-nots’ and the ‘want to haves’ by virtue of the unprecedented and growing population of the earth.

Ezio Manzini’s discourse at the Domus Academy Summer School, in 1992, went for approximately three hours and, as you might appreciate, there was a lot of information to absorb.

It will probably make the most sense if you read these articles in a semblance to the order in which Ezio Manzini presented them.

DISCLAIMER

*

All images and text are an approximation of Ezio Manzini’s original slide presentation and discourse, a kind of plagiarism on my behalf. In modesty, roughly 50% of this information’s important meaning remains intact and 50% in an attempt to capture the feeling of the presentation.

In relation to the written content, I have drawn from what I remember and parallels from my own life experience. At worst I just made stuff up in the spirit of the meaning that Ezio was trying to convey, according to me.

Personally, my biggest concern is what I didn’t hear during lapses in concentration and the crunch of people eating potato crisps!
